The Belhaven Blazers were making the transition from college to university and needed a brand identity system that would not only celebrate the transition, but would also help convey their position as a Christ-focused, compassionate, competitive athletics department. As we approached this project, we looked at characteristics that defined the Blazers’ namesake – the Scottish trail-blazing pioneers that settled in this area – as well as the core values the athletic department wished to instill in Belhaven student-athletes. Words like faith, courage, truth, steadfast, heritage, and passion consistently rose to the top, and are what we sought to represent in this identity.
In defining the Belhaven Blazers, we found their Christian faith and Scottish heritage at the root. We found student-athletes infused with faith, spirit, and pride; the spiritual growth and maturity of student-athletes, their competitive spirit of sport and love of the game, and their pride in their Scottish trailblazing heritage and history.
Released in 2008, the Belhaven University athletic identity has been distributed throughout the entire athletics program. Belhaven finally has a clear, consistent brand with which they can effectively communicate the message of Christ at the center of all they do.
