Washington D.C.’s Arena Football League team finally has an identity. Say hello to the Washington Valor!
RARE presented numerous names and identity system options during the brand development process.
“Valor represents bravery and courage, and to be courageous one must be strong, committed and truthful,” managing partner Roger Mody, said. “It was important that it represented the nation’s capital, the vibrancy of the city and its sports teams.”
Zach Leonsis, Monumental Sports Network’s VP and GM, said, “It calls out the best in all of us to be brave and strong and celebrate our country but also creates an identity locally,” Leonsis said. “I think our community in D.C. and Maryland and Virginia will see a lot of themselves in the name and they’ll be very, very proud of it.” Leonsis said the name stands for what the franchise hopes to build when it begins play in the spring of 2017 and “holds a mirror up to the community and fan base.”

Blue represents strength, trust and fortitude. Red represents the fire, passion and courage of the franchise. White represents the purity and completeness of the organization. And, silver illuminates the vision as a way forward. The team joins the Wizards, Capitals, Mystics and Nationals as Washington, D.C. teams to have the traditional red, white and blue color scheme.
